Touch and go all the way
for young Alan
Last October, seven year old Alan Ryan of Bathurst was rushed to Sydney by a Telstra Child Flight helicopter after being diagnosed with a growth on the brain.
Emergency surgery at Westmead Children's Hospital was his only hope but no one thought he would even survive the flight. At Westmead, doctors gave mum Maria their prognosis - that her son probably wouldn't live through the surgery. Alan proved them all wrong again and survived, but the family's ordeal wasn't over yet.
Because of the type of growth, the treatment Alan needed could only be administered once, and if that didn't work there was little else doctors could do to help him. A long few weeks over Christmas went by before Alan was again examined. Doctors were delighted (and not just a little surprised) to find no trace of the growth. Alan was in complete remission. Maria Ryan is now a busy Telstra Child Flight volunteer, organising a fundraising event for us in Bathurst. She is one of the many parents who have become committed to supporting us after the life of their child has been saved.

Life in the Spotlight 2

In 2010 Wagga Support Group organised a fantastic theatrical fundraiser that raised more than $12,000.
This year, they are doing it again. Life in the Spotlight 2 is a musical production showcasing songs from legendary Hollywood movies and features local talent.

| Anyone for a trek?
To 'celebrate' turning 50, John Bakker of Goulburn will be living his dream and trekking the Kokoda Trail.
John's son, Tom, was airlifted back in 2004, and to repay us for helping save his son's life, John's Kokoda Trail adventure is also an excuse to raise funds.
John needs people to help organise sponsors, generate publicity and coordinate the event itself, before joining him on the trip.

Telstra Child Flight has several very active volunteer Support Groups in the regions of NSW, including Orange, where Mel Townsend and her team have been busy drumming up support for critically ill kids.
Mel is the hard-working coordinator of the group which has several fundraising events on the boil at the moment, including a Golf Day on the 27 March and involvement in the Gold Crown Harness Racing Carnival during the week before.
We're always looking for new volunteers to form fundraising groups, or join existing ones in the NSW regions. Are you up for it?
