Darcey’s dash …

It appeared to be a normal day for Julie Oades.  The only problem seemed to be that her eldest daughter, Emily was home from school with a high temperature. It was only later in the afternoon after she picked up her son, Fynn, from preschool that the real drama began to play out.

Darcey, her 5 week old baby girl, appeared to have a breathing difficulty. Julie was alarmed enough to see it as an emergency and called an ambulance. As a mother of three, Julie’s instinct  was quite correct  and by the time the ambulance arrived, Darcey was really struggling to breath.  The ambulance paramedics checked Darcey’s condition and quickly transported her to  Gosford Hospital. However the little girl’s condition deteriorated, she became critically ill and in urgent need of specialist intensive care.

Gosford Hospital called Telstra Child Flight and we quickly transported little Darcey to Sydney Children’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit at Randwick, where she was diagnosed with RSV positive Bronchiolitis and suffering severe respiratory distress. She remained in intensive care for six days.

Julie Oades now has a beautiful healthy baby back at home, and is extremely grateful to the mobile intensive team. “ We are ever so thankful  to all involved with the retrieval of our little girl. The mobile intensive care unit was paramount in saving Darcey. The NETS team were so efficient at their job and so reassuring in such a scary situation”  she said.
